History of Lacrosse in Brockville


THE EARLY YEARS

  • Lacrosse first played in Brockville in 1883, played in a tournament between Cornwall, Kingston, Iroquois, Aultsville and Montreal

  • League was then formed in 1887 with teams from Brockville, Cornwall, Montreal and Ottawa

  • The most accomplished team in the early years was the 1930 Brockville Gutta Percha Tires, named

  • Admission to the first professional in Brockville was 35 cents, Brockville won it 8-4 over Morrisburg

  • They finished their first year with 8 wins, 2 ties and no losses

  • The team went on to roll thru the playoffs and win the league in their first year

  • The next year they changed their name to the Pirates and went on to the League championship only to lose to Cornwall in the finals

  • Dwindling attendance forced the league to fold before the start of the next season
